Jeremiah 26:21
Amharic 2000 (የአማርኛ መጽሐፍ ቅዱስ (ሰማንያ አሃዱ))
What Does This Mean?
This verse tells us that when King Jehoiakim and his men heard the words of Urijah, the king wanted to kill him. But Urijah was afraid and ran away to Egypt. This shows the danger prophets faced for speaking the truth.
Explained for Children
Imagine if a teacher told the principal something he didn't want to hear, and the principal got angry. The teacher might be scared and run away to a friend's house. That's kind of what happened here, but with a prophet and a king.
Historical Background
Jeremiah wrote this about 600 BC, during a time when Judah was under threat from Babylon. The king, Jehoiakim, was not pleased with prophets like Urijah who warned of God's judgment. This was a turbulent period with political and religious tensions.
Living It Out Today
Sometimes, speaking the truth can put us in difficult situations. Like when a friend does something wrong and you need to tell them, but you fear they might get angry. It's important to be brave and honest, even if it's scary.
