Jeremiah 43:12
Amharic (Tigrigna: Contemporary Tigrinya Bible 2024)
What Does This Mean?
In this verse, God is speaking and predicts that He will use a foreign ruler to set fire to the temples of Egyptian gods, destroy them, and take their treasures. This ruler will also conquer Egypt as easily as a shepherd puts on his coat and leave peacefully with his spoils.
Explained for Children
Imagine if you had a toy castle and some little toy soldiers. God is saying He will use a big strong soldier to knock down the toy castle and take away the little toys inside. The big soldier will take over the whole toy land as easily as putting on a coat and then leave without any problems.
Historical Background
Jeremiah 43 was written by the prophet Jeremiah around 600 BCE. The context is the Babylonian invasion of Egypt. Jeremiah, speaking for God, warns the people of Judah who fled to Egypt that they will face divine judgment.
Living It Out Today
In today's context, this verse can remind us that our reliance on things other than God can be destroyed if we do not trust in Him. For instance, someone who puts all their hopes in their career might face a major setback if they neglect their spiritual life.
