Luke 8:52
Amharic Tigrinya 2011
What Does This Mean?
In this verse, Jesus is speaking to mourners at the funeral of a young girl. He tells them not to weep because the girl isn't dead but sleeping, hinting that he will bring her back to life.
Explained for Children
Imagine if your pet fish suddenly stopped moving and everyone thought it died. But then imagine someone saying 'Don’t cry! Your fish is just taking a long nap!' That’s what Jesus did here with a little girl. He told people not to be sad because he was about to wake her up.
Historical Background
Luke wrote this account in the Gospel of Luke, which was written around AD 60-80. The audience likely included both Jews and Gentiles familiar with Greek culture. In this cultural setting, mourning for a deceased child would have been a deeply solemn event.
Living It Out Today
When faced with difficult news or situations that seem hopeless, like someone's serious illness, remember to hold onto hope. Just as Jesus brought life where others saw only death, he can bring unexpected hope and change in our lives too.
