فدَعا يسوعُ تَلاميذَه وقالَ لَهم: «أُشفِقُ عَلى هٰذا الجَمْع، فإِنَّهم مُنذُ ثَلاثَةِ أَيَّامٍ يُلازِمونَني ولَيسَ عِندَهُم ما يأكُلون. فلا أُريدُ أَن أَصرِفَهم صائمين لِئَلاَّ تَخورَ قُواهُم في الطَّريق».
