Judges 12:14
Awadhi
What Does This Mean?
This verse tells us about a man named Jephthah who had 40 sons and 30 nephews who rode on 70 donkey colts. He led Israel for eight years. The verse describes his family and his role as a judge.
Explained for Children
Imagine you have a big family with lots of brothers and cousins. Now, think of all of you riding on donkeys, like a big parade! This is what Jephthah's family was like. He was also a leader for Israel, kind of like how a teacher leads a class.
Historical Background
The Book of Judges was written by various authors in the period following the death of Joshua. It was compiled around the 5th century BC. The audience would have been the Israelites, and it was written to remind them of the cycles of sin and deliverance in their history.
Living It Out Today
Think about a community leader who has a big family. They use their family and leadership to serve the community, much like Jephthah did. In modern times, this could be a mayor with a large family who uses his or her position to improve the city.
