What Does This Mean?
This verse is Jesus talking to Ananias about Saul (later known as Paul). He says that Saul will suffer a lot for the sake of spreading God's name, but he will also do great things in His service.
Explained for Children
Imagine you're really good at something and everyone loves watching you play. But some bullies don't like it when you show off your talent, so they make life hard for you. Jesus is saying that Saul (later called Paul) will have to face tough times because of his special job to tell people about God's name.
Historical Background
The Book of Acts was written by Luke around AD 80-90. It narrates the early history of Christianity and its spread from Jerusalem to Rome. The passage is set in Damascus, where Saul has just had a life-changing encounter with Jesus on the road to Damascus.
Living It Out Today
A modern scenario could be a person standing up for what they believe in at work or school. They might face ridicule or being passed over for promotions because of their beliefs, but if they stay true to God's word, they can accomplish great things despite these challenges.
