Genesis 26:18
Czech SNC
What Does This Mean?
In Genesis 26:18, Isaac restores the water wells that his father Abraham had dug. The Philistines had filled them with dirt after Abraham died, but Isaac reopened them and named them as his father had.
Explained for Children
Imagine your grandpa dug holes in the garden to plant flowers. After he moved away, someone filled them with dirt. But your dad came back and cleaned the holes, planting flowers just like grandpa did. That’s what Isaac did with the wells his dad Abraham dug.
Historical Background
This verse is part of the Book of Genesis, traditionally attributed to Moses around the 13th century BCE. The text was written for the Israelites, providing a historical and spiritual narrative. During Isaac's time, wells were vital for survival and conflict over them was common.
Living It Out Today
Today, when an old project is abandoned or damaged, like an unused community garden, we can restore it and continue the legacy. This could mean cleaning up a park or reviving a forgotten hobby.
