Joshua 21:7
Czech SNC
What Does This Mean?
This verse states that the Merari family group received twelve cities for their living quarters from the tribes of Reuben, Gad, and Zebulun. It is part of the allocation of cities to the Levites, who were responsible for religious duties.
Explained for Children
Imagine you have a group of friends who help take care of your playground. To make sure they have places to live, you give them houses in different neighborhoods. That's what happened here: God gave homes to some helpers in special cities.
Historical Background
The book of Joshua was written by Joshua, the leader of the Israelites after Moses. It was written around 1400-1350 BCE, detailing the allocation of land among the Israelite tribes after they entered Canaan. The Levites, who were responsible for religious duties, were given cities scattered among the tribes.
Living It Out Today
This verse reminds us of the importance of support systems in our communities. Just as the Levites were given cities to live in, we can think about how we support those who serve our communities, such as teachers or religious leaders.
