What Does This Mean?
In this verse from Matthew's Gospel, Jesus tells a parable about a master who gives talents to his servants according to their abilities before going on a journey. The key message is that God will give us gifts and opportunities based on our individual capabilities.
Explained for Children
Imagine you have some toys, and your parents decide how many each of you gets based on what they think you can handle. It’s like that, but with skills and talents from God instead of toys!
Historical Background
Matthew wrote this Gospel around 80-90 AD for a Jewish-Christian audience in the Roman Empire. Jesus uses parables to teach about responsibility and stewardship, common themes in first-century Palestinian culture.
Living It Out Today
Think about how you use your talents at work or school. Just like the servants with their talents, we should make good use of what God has given us so that when He returns, He will be pleased.
