"What a big man you are! But the Lord will crush you. He will roll you into a small ball and throw you far away into the open arms of another country, and there you will die." {The Lord said,} "You are very proud of your chariots. But in that faraway land, your new ruler will have better chariots. And your chariots will not look important in his palace.
What Does This Mean?
This verse says that God will take someone away with a strong force, like being swept up by a big wind. God is speaking here, warning someone that they will be covered up, meaning they will face a difficult time. The key message is about the consequences of disobedience.
Explained for Children
Imagine if you were playing in a sandbox and suddenly a big wind came and blew you away to a different place. God is saying that something like that will happen to someone, but it's because they did something wrong.
Historical Background
Isaiah wrote this around 700 BC, during a time when Judah was facing threats from foreign powers. The audience was the people of Jerusalem, and this verse is part of a prophecy warning a leader named Shebna about his coming downfall.
Living It Out Today
In today's world, this verse can remind us that our actions have consequences. For example, if someone is caught stealing at work, they might be fired and have a hard time finding another job, which shows how their life can change suddenly and negatively.
