1 Corinthians 9:6
Estonian EEP
What Does This Mean?
In this verse, Paul is asking if he and Barnabas should not have the right to live off the support of those they are ministering to. He suggests that other missionaries do so, and he wonders why he and Barnabas shouldn't also be able to.
Explained for Children
Imagine you're helping your neighbor with their garden for free. Paul is asking if it's okay for him and his friend to ask for some food or rest in return for all the help they give others. It’s like saying, 'If other people get something back when they help, why can’t we too?'
Historical Background
This verse comes from a letter written by Paul to the church in Corinth around 53-54 AD. He is addressing issues related to his authority and whether he should be supported financially for his ministry work.
Living It Out Today
Today, this could apply when you're volunteering your time or skills to help someone. It's okay to expect some form of support or compensation in return, especially if others are being compensated similarly for their services.
