What Does This Mean?
In this verse from Luke 17:19, Jesus is speaking to a man whom he had just healed of leprosy. He tells the man that his faith has made him whole and sends him on his way.
Explained for Children
Imagine you have a big boo-boo that won't heal no matter what you do. Then one day, someone tells you that if you really believe in their power to help, your boo-boo will get better. And guess what? It does! That's kind of like what happened here with Jesus and this man.
Historical Background
The Gospel of Luke was written by Luke, a doctor and companion of the apostle Paul, around 60-80 AD. The audience is primarily Gentiles (non-Jews) but includes Jews as well. In the cultural setting of the time, leprosy was seen as an impurity that required isolation.
Living It Out Today
Think about a time when you faced a difficult situation and believed in something or someone to help you through it. That faith made all the difference just like it did for this man. Today, you can apply your faith to any challenge, knowing that belief can lead to healing and wholeness.
