Mark 14:5
Estonian EEP
What Does This Mean?
In this verse from Mark's Gospel, Jesus is speaking about a woman who poured expensive perfume on him. Some people complained because they thought the money could have been used to help the poor instead of buying perfume.
Explained for Children
Imagine you have a very special toy that costs a lot of money. Your friend decides to sell their favorite toy for a lot of money and uses it to buy food for hungry kids. Some people might say, 'Why didn't they use the money in a different way?' But your friend thought this was a good thing because they were showing how much they cared.
Historical Background
Mark wrote his Gospel around AD 65-70, possibly in Rome, to an audience of early Christians. At that time, perfume was very expensive and considered a luxury item, often used for special occasions or as part of religious rituals.
Living It Out Today
Imagine you have a choice between spending money on something you really enjoy or giving it to help those in need. This verse suggests thinking about the value of showing care and love, even if others don't understand your decision.
