1 Kings 19:2
Hebrew Aleppo Codex Bible
What Does This Mean?
In this verse, Jezebel threatens Elijah, promising to kill him in the same way she had killed other prophets. Elijah is a prophet of God, and Jezebel is his enemy, trying to eliminate all who oppose her.
Explained for Children
Imagine you're playing a game and someone threatens you, saying they'll do to you what they did to other kids who didn't play by their rules. That's what Jezebel is doing to Elijah.
Historical Background
The book of 1 Kings was written by an unknown author, most likely during the time of King Josiah's reforms in the late 7th century BCE. The audience would have been the Israelites, and the cultural setting was one of conflict between the worship of Yahweh and the worship of Baal, led by Jezebel.
Living It Out Today
In today’s world, we can face threats from those who disagree with us. This verse teaches us to stand firm in our beliefs and seek God's protection, just as Elijah did.
