Jeremiah 46:21
Hebrew Bible Modern 1977
What Does This Mean?
This verse from Jeremiah describes how the soldiers hired by Egypt have turned and fled in fear, unable to stand against their enemies. The prophet Jeremiah is speaking, warning that the time of judgment has come for Egypt.
Explained for Children
Imagine you hired some big, strong bulls to help you in a contest, but when the contest started, the bulls got scared and ran away. That's what happened here; Egypt hired soldiers, but they ran away when they were needed most.
Historical Background
Jeremiah, a prophet of the Lord, wrote this around 600 BC, warning the people of Egypt about the impending judgment from God. The cultural setting was one of political instability and frequent conflict in the region.
Living It Out Today
In modern times, this verse can remind us that we can't rely on temporary or external support in times of crisis. Just as the Egyptian soldiers fled, our temporary allies might not be there when we need them most.
