Job 4:8
Hebrew Bible Modern 1977
What Does This Mean?
Job 4:8 says that those who do bad things will eventually experience bad things themselves. Bildad is speaking, warning Job that the consequences of evil actions will eventually come back to those who commit them.
Explained for Children
Imagine planting seeds. If you plant bad seeds, you won't get good fruits. The same is true for actions. If you do bad things, bad things will come back to you.
Historical Background
This verse is from the Book of Job, written by an unknown author around 700-500 B.C. It is addressed to a suffering Job, emphasizing that bad actions lead to bad outcomes, which was a common belief in the ancient Near East.
Living It Out Today
Consider a person who cheats on their taxes. Eventually, the IRS might catch them and they'll face penalties, showing that bad actions lead to bad consequences, just as Job 4:8 suggests.
