Luke 9:42
Hungarian Bible (SIUZ) - P. Soós István,karmelita szerzetes, Újszövetség fordítása
What Does This Mean?
In this verse from Luke's gospel, Jesus is on his way to heal a boy who has an evil spirit inside him. The devil tries to hurt the boy before Jesus gets there, but Jesus rebukes the demon and heals the child, giving him back to his father.
Explained for Children
Imagine you're playing with your favorite toy when suddenly someone tries to snatch it away and break it. But then a superhero comes and stops that person from hurting your toy and gives it back to you. That's kind of what Jesus did here, but instead of a toy, he saved the boy from being hurt.
Historical Background
This verse was written by Luke, who was not one of the original disciples but compiled his gospel around 60-80 AD for a Roman audience. The story reflects the common belief in demons and healing miracles among both Jews and Greeks at that time.
Living It Out Today
In modern times, if you or someone you know is struggling with something like depression or addiction, this verse reminds us to seek help from God. Just as Jesus healed the boy by driving out the evil spirit, He can also free us from harmful situations or conditions today.
