Joshua 23:13
Armenian Eastern Bible 1994
What Does This Mean?
In Joshua 23:13, Joshua warns the Israelites that God will not drive out the remaining nations as He did before. These nations will become obstacles and troubles for the Israelites, causing them to lose the land God has given them.
Explained for Children
Imagine you have a new toy, and your friend says, 'Keep your toy safe because others might try to take it away. They'll be like thorns in your eyes, making it hard to enjoy your toy.' Joshua is telling the Israelites that they need to be careful because other people will try to make life hard for them in their new home.
Historical Background
Joshua wrote this to the Israelites just before his death. The Israelites had conquered much of Canaan but were still surrounded by other nations. Joshua is reminding them of the challenges they will face to stay faithful to God.
Living It Out Today
In modern times, this verse reminds us that we must be vigilant about the influences in our lives that can distract us from our faith. For example, a person might be surrounded by negative peers who could lead them away from their values.
