Nehemiah 11:1
Georgian (OGB) Old Georgian - No Year
What Does This Mean?
Nehemiah 11:1 describes how the leaders lived in Jerusalem, and the rest of the people drew lots to decide who would live in Jerusalem and who would live in other cities. One out of every ten people would live in Jerusalem, while nine would live elsewhere.
Explained for Children
Imagine a big game where one out of every ten kids gets to live in the coolest playground, and the rest live in other fun places. That's what happened in Jerusalem, where the leaders lived and some people were chosen to live there too.
Historical Background
The Book of Nehemiah was written by Nehemiah, a cupbearer to the Persian king, around 445 BCE. It details the return of the Jews from exile in Babylon and their efforts to rebuild Jerusalem and restore their community.
Living It Out Today
In modern times, this can be seen as a reminder to support our communities. Just like some people lived in Jerusalem to help rebuild it, we can choose to live or work in places that need our help and support.
