블레셋 사람들이 `아니, 어느 놈이 이런 짓을 하였어?' 하고 아우성을 치자 어떤 사람이 `이것은 딤나 사람의 사위 삼손이 한 짓이다. 자기 아내를 잔치 때 들러리 섰던 사람에게 시집 보냈다고 하여 화가 나서 한 짓이다.' 하고 말하였다. 그러자 블레셋 사람들이 딤나로 몰려가 삼손의 아내와 장인을 불에 태워 죽였다.
