Joshua 23:16
Lithuanian Bible (Karaliaus Jokūbo Versija Lietuviškai 2012 Edition) 2012 - KJV
What Does This Mean?
Joshua is warning the Israelites that if they break their covenant with God and start worshiping other gods, God's anger will be kindled, and they will be quickly removed from the land He has given them.
Explained for Children
Imagine you have a special toy that your friend gave you, and they told you not to break it or play with other toys. If you don't follow their rules, they might take the toy away. Joshua is saying that God will do the same if the Israelites don't follow His rules.
Historical Background
Joshua 23 is part of the Book of Joshua, written by Joshua or his contemporaries around 1400-1300 BCE. This chapter is addressed to the leaders and people of Israel, shortly before Joshua's death, as a reminder of their covenant with God.
Living It Out Today
Consider a modern scenario where a company employee disregards the company's code of conduct and starts engaging in unethical practices. Just as the company may terminate the employee for breaking the rules, God warns the Israelites that breaking the covenant will result in severe consequences.
