Joshua 4:12
Lithuanian Bible (Karaliaus Jokūbo Versija Lietuviškai 2012 Edition) 2012 - KJV
What Does This Mean?
This verse describes how the tribes of Reuben, Gad, and half of Manasseh crossed the Jordan River armed, as Moses had instructed them. They were to lead the way for the rest of the Israelites.
Explained for Children
Imagine you and your friends are going on a big adventure. Before you all cross the river, some of your friends who are really good at swimming go first to make sure it's safe for everyone else. That's what's happening here with these tribes.
Historical Background
Joshua was written by Joshua, the leader of the Israelites after Moses, around 1400-1300 B.C. The audience was the Israelites, and the cultural setting was the transition from the desert wanderings to settling in the Promised Land.
Living It Out Today
In modern life, this verse can remind us of the importance of taking the lead when we have the ability to do so. Whether it's a project at work or a family responsibility, stepping up and being the first to act can inspire others to follow.
