Genesis 18:24
Nepali 2012 (NNRV) New Revised Version (नेपाली नयाँ संशोधित संस्करण)
What Does This Mean?
In Genesis 18:24, Abraham is asking God if He would spare the city of Sodom if there were at least fifty righteous people there. Abraham is trying to convince God to be merciful and not destroy the city because of a few good people.
Explained for Children
Imagine if you were playing in a park and there were a few good kids who were really nice. Would it be fair to close down the whole park because a few kids were not so nice? Abraham is asking God if He would let the good kids save the park.
Historical Background
This verse comes from the book of Genesis, part of the Pentateuch written by Moses around 1446-1406 BCE. It was written for the Israelites, explaining God's justice and mercy in a cultural setting where divine justice was a common theme.
Living It Out Today
Consider a workplace where most employees are problematic, but a few are excellent. This verse reminds us to advocate for fairness and mercy. Just as Abraham pleaded for the fifty righteous, we can seek to protect and support the good amidst less favorable circumstances.
