Herren sa til Moses og Aron: «Når et menneske har en misfarging, skabb eller en lys flekk på huden, og det blir som et sår av en ondartet hudsykdom på kroppen hans, skal han føres til presten Aron eller til en av sønnene hans. Presten skal undersøke såret på huden. Hvis håret på såret er blitt hvitt, og såret viser seg å være dypere enn huden, er det en ondartet hudsykdom. Da skal presten undersøke ham og erklære ham for smittsom. Men dersom den lyse flekken på huden er hvit, og den ikke ser ut til å være dypere enn huden, og håret ikke er blitt hvitt, skal presten holde den syke innestengt i sju dager. På den sjuende dagen skal presten undersøke ham. Dersom såret ser ut til å være uforandret, og hvis såret ikke har spredd seg videre utover huden, skal presten holde ham innestengt i sju dager til. Nok en gang skal presten undersøke ham igjen etter sju dager. Dersom såret er blitt mindre og ikke har spredd seg videre utover huden, skal presten erklære ham ren, for da er det bare skabb. Da skal han vaske klærne sine og ikke regnes som smittsom – han er ren.
