Herren sa så til Moses: «Hvis en av dere begår en synd mot det som er hellig for Herren, uten å mene det, skal han ofre en feilfri vær av sau eller geit som offer for det han har gjort seg skyldig i. Du skal fastsette verdien på dyret i sølv ut ifra vektenheten på sølvet i helligdommen. I tillegg til dette skal han legge til en femtedel av det han skylder, og gi det til presten; det skal være som kompensasjon for at han syndet mot noe hellig. Presten skal ofre væren til Herren og be om tilgivelse på vegne av han som har syndet, og det skal bli tilgitt ham. Selv om noen synder i uvitenhet, så har han syndet når han bryter ett av Herrens bud og gjør noe som er forbudt. Han må ta ansvar for synden sin. Han må derfor ofre en feilfri vær av sau eller geit og gi dette til presten. Verdien av dyret skal fastsettes. Så skal presten gi dyret til Herren og be om tilgivelse for ham som syndet i uvitenhet, og det skal bli tilgitt ham. Dette er et offer for skyld, for han har sannelig gjort seg skyldig overfor Herren.»
