La sangen stige og håndtrommer lyde til vakre toner fra lyre og harpe!

Blås i horn på nymånedagen og ved fullmåne, på vår høytidsdag!

For dette er en forskrift i Israel, et påbud fra Jakobs Gud,

en lov som han gav til Josefs ætt da den drog ut fra Egypt. Jeg hører en ukjent stemme:

Jeg fridde hans skulder for byrden, hans hender slapp fri fra bærekurven.

Du ropte i nøden, og jeg reddet deg; jeg svarte deg, skjult i tordenskyen, og prøvde deg ved Meriba-vannet.

Hør, mitt folk, jeg formaner deg. Israel, om du ville høre på meg!

Du skal ikke ha noen fremmed gud, du skal ikke tilbe andre guder!

Jeg er Herren, din Gud, som førte deg opp fra Egypt. Lukk munnen opp, så fyller jeg den.

Men folket mitt hørte ikke på meg, Israel ville ikke lyde meg.
13
Så lot jeg dem fare, forherdet som de var, de fulgte sine egne planer.
14
Å, om mitt folk ville høre på meg, om Israel ville gå på mine veier!
15
Snart skulle jeg kue deres fiender og rette min hånd mot deres motstandere.
16
De som hater Herren, må krype for ham, deres ulykkestid skal alltid vare.
17
Men deg vil jeg fø med den beste hvete og mette med honning fra fjell.
