Herre, refs meg ikkje ¬i din vreide, og tukt meg ikkje i din harme!

For dine piler har råka meg, di hand ligg tungt på meg.

Fordi du straffar i din harme, er ingenting friskt i min kropp; mine lemer er sjuke ¬fordi eg har synda.

Mi syndeskuld stig meg ¬over hovudet, ho er som ei bør, ¬for tung for meg.
6
Eg har sår som luktar ¬og renn av verk, fordi eg var så uvitug.
7
Eg er kroket, ja, heilt nedbøygd, og går og syrgjer dagen lang.
8
Mine hofter er fulle av verk, ingenting er friskt i min kropp.
9
Eg er heilt kraftlaus og knekt; eg skrik fordi mitt sinn ¬er i opprør.
10
Herre, du ser ¬kva eg lengtar etter, mitt sukk er ikkje løynt for deg.
11
Mitt hjarta hamrar, ¬krafta sviktar, jamvel ljoset i augo er borte.
12
Mine vener og frendar snur seg bort frå mi plage, mine næraste held seg ¬langt unna.
13
Dei som står meg etter livet, set snarer for meg; dei som vil meg vondt, talar om å tyna meg og tenkjer dagen lang på svik.

Men eg er som ein døv, ¬eg høyrer ikkje, lik ein mållaus ¬som ikkje opnar sin munn.

Eg liknar ein mann ¬som ikkje høyrer og ikkje har svar i sin munn.

Herre, til deg står mi von. Du vil svara meg, ¬Herre, min Gud.

Eg tenkjer: Lat dei ikkje ¬triumfera over meg, og ikkje briska seg ¬når foten min er ustø.

For eg held på å falla, mi plage står alltid for meg.

Men eg sannar mi misgjerning og syrgjer over mi synd.
20
Mine fiendar er fulle ¬av liv og kraft; mange er dei ¬som hatar meg utan grunn.

Dei som løner godt med vondt, ¬står meg imot, fordi eg jagar etter det gode.

Forlat meg ikkje, Herre! Min Gud, ¬ver ikkje langt borte frå meg!
23
Skunda deg og hjelp meg, Herre, du som er min frelsar!
