Amos 3:6
Ndebele Bible - 2010
What Does This Mean?
Amos is speaking and asking if people would not be afraid when a trumpet is blown in the city as a warning. He also asks if something bad happens, could it possibly be that God did not cause it? The key message is that God is involved in all events, especially those affecting His people.
Explained for Children
Imagine you hear a loud siren during a fire drill at school. Would the students not react with fear or concern? Similarly, if something bad happens in our world, we can be sure it’s within God's plan and not outside of His control.
Historical Background
Amos, a prophet from the southern kingdom of Judah, prophesied to Israel around 760-750 BCE. The audience was the northern tribes of Israel who were living in luxury but ignoring social justice and God’s commandments. Amos’ words aimed at calling them back to righteousness.
Living It Out Today
Consider a situation where a city faces an unexpected natural disaster. People often look for reasons or blame, but this verse reminds us that even such calamities can be seen as part of God's sovereign plan in the broader scope of human history and faith.
