Mark 15:42
Ndebele Bible - 2010
What Does This Mean?
This verse tells us that it was getting late on the day before the Sabbath, which is called Preparation Day because people were preparing for the Sabbath rest. There's no direct speech here; instead, it gives context to the timing of events in Jesus' crucifixion.
Explained for Children
Imagine you're cleaning your room really fast before mommy or daddy comes home—same idea! This verse tells us that everyone was hurrying up because tomorrow is a special day when they don't work, and today they had lots to do before resting.
Historical Background
Mark wrote this gospel around AD 60-70 for both Jewish and Gentile Christians. He focuses on the actions of Jesus rather than his teachings. The Sabbath was very important in Jewish culture, a day dedicated to rest and worship, beginning at sundown Friday.
Living It Out Today
This verse reminds us about managing our time wisely before important events or deadlines. For example, if you have a big project due next week, today is the Preparation Day for that project—use your time well!
