Philippians 1:29
Ndebele Bible - 2010
What Does This Mean?
This verse from Philippians says that it's a gift to believe in Jesus and also to face challenges for his sake. Paul, the author, is speaking directly to the believers at Philippi about their faith journey.
Explained for Children
Imagine you get a special toy - not only do you get to play with it, but sometimes you have to protect it from getting broken. In this way, believing in Jesus and sometimes facing difficulties for him are both gifts from God.
Historical Background
The letter was written by the apostle Paul around AD 60-62 while he was imprisoned. He wrote to encourage the believers in Philippi who were likely facing challenges because of their faith in a predominantly pagan Roman society.
Living It Out Today
In today's context, it might mean standing up for what you believe is right at work or school, even if others mock you or try to undermine your efforts, knowing that this can be part of following Christ.
