Revelation 17:1
Ndebele Bible - 2010
What Does This Mean?
In this verse from Revelation, one of the seven angels with vials speaks to John and invites him to see a judgment coming upon a powerful symbol called 'the great whore'. This symbol represents an evil entity that has control over many nations.
Explained for Children
Imagine you have a friend who tells you about a really big bully in your school. Your friend says, 'Come with me, I want to show you what's going to happen to this mean person.' That’s kind of like what the angel is doing here. He wants John to see how God will deal with a very bad person or group.
Historical Background
This verse was written by the Apostle John around 95 AD while he was in exile on Patmos. The audience was likely early Christians facing persecution from the Roman Empire, and the cultural setting reflected the complexities of living under oppressive rule.
Living It Out Today
In today's world, this can be seen as a reminder that no matter how powerful or influential an individual or group may seem, there will always come a time for judgment. It encourages us to stand firm in our beliefs and not compromise them.
