Matthew 27:58
Sindhi Bible (Hindu) (Hindu Sindhi New Testament © The Pakistan Bible Society, 2022) - پوِتر شاستر يسوع مسيح جي خوشخبري
What Does This Mean?
This verse describes Joseph of Arimathea going to Pilate and asking for Jesus' body after the crucifixion. Pilate, the Roman governor, then ordered that the body be given to him. This shows how someone took a risk to ensure Jesus received proper burial.
Explained for Children
Imagine if your friend's favorite toy broke, and you went to ask a grown-up for permission to fix it because they said no one could touch it. That’s kind of like what Joseph did; he asked the boss, Pilate, for Jesus' body so he could give Him a proper burial.
Historical Background
Matthew wrote this gospel around AD 80-90, aimed at a Jewish audience familiar with the Hebrew scriptures and Messianic prophecies. The Roman occupation of Judea provides the backdrop, where crucifixion was used as a means to suppress rebellion.
Living It Out Today
In today’s context, imagine working in an environment where you must ask permission from authority figures for what seems like common decency. This verse encourages us to stand up for what is right and just, even if it requires facing difficult authorities.
