What Does This Mean?
In this verse from Acts, Paul is saying goodbye to the people he has been teaching about God's kingdom. He knows that after this time, they will never see him again.
Explained for Children
Imagine you have a favorite teacher who comes every week to teach you fun things about the world. One day, your teacher says it might be their last visit because they're moving far away and won't come back. That's kind of what Paul is doing here—he’s saying goodbye to his friends.
Historical Background
The Book of Acts was written by Luke around 60-80 AD. This passage depicts a moment when the apostle Paul, on his way to Jerusalem, addresses the Ephesian elders in Miletus. The cultural setting is one where traveling leaders like Paul would often have deep bonds with their followers due to shared experiences and teachings.
Living It Out Today
Today, if someone close to you moves away permanently or passes away, this verse can remind us of the importance of cherishing our time together while we can. It also emphasizes the need to live fully in whatever time we have left, inspired by those who've influenced us.
