What Does This Mean?
This verse says that Edom will become a desolate place, and anyone who passes by will be shocked and express their dismay at its condition. The speaker is Jeremiah, a prophet of the Lord, and the key message is about the severe judgment that will come upon Edom.
Explained for Children
Imagine a once-beautiful garden that is now all overgrown and empty. This verse tells us that a place called Edom will become like that, and people who see it will be very surprised and sad about how it looks.
Historical Background
Jeremiah, a prophet of the Lord, wrote this in the 6th century BCE. He was speaking to the people of Judah and warning them about the judgment that would come upon their neighbors, including Edom, due to their wickedness and pride.
Living It Out Today
Today, we can see this as a reminder to not be proud or arrogant, as the consequences of our actions can lead to devastating results. For example, a business that acts unethically might lose all its customers and end up in a desolate state.
