Amos 1:2

What Does This Mean?
In this verse from Amos, God is described as roaring like a lion from the holy city of Jerusalem and Zion, warning that the shepherds' homes will mourn and the top of Mount Carmel will wither. This message comes from God through the prophet Amos.
Explained for Children
Imagine if a big lion started to roar in your backyard! That's how loud and scary God sounds here, but He's not just roaring for fun. He's warning that something bad is going to happen to people who were taking care of others, kind of like when you forget to water your plants and they start to dry up.
Historical Background
Amos wrote this around the 8th century BCE during a time of prosperity in Israel but also great inequality. He was speaking to the Northern Kingdom of Israel about God's judgment for their sins, especially social injustice and religious hypocrisy.
Living It Out Today
In today’s world, imagine if someone is mistreating workers or ignoring poverty while living comfortably. This verse reminds us that there are consequences for not caring for others and that God notices when we don't follow His teachings on justice and compassion.
