What Does This Mean?
This verse is spoken by Jesus in the Gospel of Mark. He says that the poor will always be around, so we can help them anytime. But there are moments with Him that won't last forever.
Explained for Children
Imagine your friend tells you that there will always be people who need a helping hand, like when someone drops their toys and needs help picking them up. They'll always be there for you to assist. But your friend also reminds you that spending time together might not last forever, so make the most of it.
Historical Background
The Gospel of Mark was written around 65-70 AD by an anonymous author believed to have been a follower of Peter. The text is addressed to early Christian communities facing persecution and uncertainty in their faith amidst a Roman-dominated world.
Living It Out Today
Imagine planning a family vacation, knowing it’s the last one you’ll take together for some time. You might decide to spend more on this trip than usual because such moments are irreplaceable, just as Jesus suggests focusing on unique opportunities while also remaining mindful of our ongoing responsibilities to others.
