Der Angesandte ging, und als er ankam und David alles, was Joab ihm aufgetragen, nämlich den ganzen Hergang des Kampfes, meldete, wurde David zornig über Joab und fragte den Abgesandten: Warum sein ihr zum Treffen so nahe an die Stadt herangerückt? Wußtet ihr nicht, daß ihr von der Mauer herab beschossen würdet? Wer hat Abimelech, den Sohn Jerubbaals, erschlagen? Hat nicht ein Weib in Thebez einen oberen Mühlstein von der Mauer aus auf ihn herabgeworfen, daß er den Tod fand? Warum seid ihr so nahe an die Mauer herangerückt?
