Es war im vierten Regierungsjahr des Königs Jojakim Ben-Joschija, als Baruch die von Jeremia diktierten Worte in die Schriftrolle schrieb, da erhielt der Prophet Jeremia eine Botschaft für Baruch.

"So spricht Jahwe, der Gott Israels, über dich, Baruch:

'Du klagst: Ich unglücklicher Mensch. Jahwe bringt auch noch Kummer in meinen Schmerz! Vom vielen Stöhnen bin ich erschöpft und finde keine Ruhe!'

Du sollst ihm Folgendes sagen: 'So spricht Jahwe: Schau her, was ich gebaut habe, breche ich ab; was ich gepflanzt habe, reiße ich aus, und zwar im ganzen Land.

Und da hoffst du auf große Dinge für dich? Tu das nicht! Schau, ich bringe Unheil über alle Menschen, spricht Jahwe, aber du darfst dein Leben als Beute davontragen, wohin du auch kommst.'"
