Judges 13:21 — English Passion Translation Bible 2020
Only then did Manoah realize that he had met the Angel of Yahweh! He turned to his wife and said, “We’re as good as dead! God has just visited us!” But his wife said, “If Yahweh had planned to kill us, he wouldn’t have accepted our burnt offering and our grain offering. He wouldn’t have revealed all these things to us or have spoken to us as he did just now.” And Manoah and his wife never encountered Yahweh ’s Angel again.
What Does This Mean?
This verse tells us that after Manoah and his wife saw the angel of the LORD, the angel did not appear to them again. Manoah then understood that the person he saw was actually an angel of the LORD.
Explained for Children
Imagine if you saw a really special visitor at your house and then realized later that this visitor was actually an angel! That's what happened to Manoah and his wife. The visitor they saw was an angel, and after he left, they understood who he really was.
Historical Background
The book of Judges was likely compiled by a prophet in Israel, probably Samuel, around 1000 B.C. The audience was the people of Israel, and it was written to show how God worked through various leaders to keep His promises and guide His people.
Living It Out Today
In modern times, when someone encounters something they initially do not understand, they may later realize its true significance. For example, a person might not understand the importance of a mentor's advice at first, but later, they might see how it was truly guiding them.
