Ezekiel 1:13 — English (YLT) 1898 Young's Literal Translation by Robert Young
As to the likeness of the living creatures, their appearances [are] as coals of fire -- burning as the appearance of lamps; it is going up and down between the living creatures, and brightness [is] to the fire, and out of the fire is going forth lightning.
What Does This Mean?
Ezekiel describes a vision he saw where living creatures appeared like burning coals and lamps, and the fire among them was bright with lightning. This shows the power and glory of God’s presence.
Explained for Children
Imagine you see some magical creatures, and they glow like the bright, warm lights on a Christmas tree. These lights move around and sometimes you see little flashes, like when you open a camera flash really fast. It's amazing and shows how powerful God is.
Historical Background
Ezekiel, a prophet, wrote this during the Babylonian exile in the 6th century BCE. His visions were meant to reassure the Israelites of God’s presence and power, even in their darkest times.
Living It Out Today
Today, we can think of this verse when we feel lost or scared. Just like Ezekiel saw the powerful, glowing presence of God, we can remember that God’s presence and power are always with us, guiding and protecting us.
