El Señor me dirigió la palabra:

¿Vale más, hijo de hombre, la madera de la vid que los troncos de madera de otros árboles del bosque?

¿Se toma de ella un trozo para hacer algún objeto, o se fabrica una percha para colgar los cacharros?

Si se echa al fuego como combustible, sus extremos se consumen en las llamas y por dentro queda calcinada; ¿servirá entonces para algo?

Si, cuando estaba intacta, ya no servía para nada, una vez devorada por el fuego, ¿qué utilidad podrá tener?

Por eso, así dice el Señor Dios: Como he arrojado al fuego, para que sirva de combustible, esa madera de la vid, un árbol entre los otros del bosque, eso mismo es lo que haré con los habitantes de Jerusalén,

pues pienso encararme con ellos. Han escapado del fuego, pero el fuego los consumirá; y reconocerán que yo soy el Señor cuando me encare con ellos.

Convertiré el país en desolación, debido a sus infidelidades —oráculo del Señor Dios.
