Ahora bien, YHVH había dicho a Abram: Vete de tu tierra, de tu parentela y de la casa de tu padre, a la tierra que te mostraré.
2
Y haré de ti una nación grande, y te bendeciré y engrandeceré tu nombre, y serás bendición.
3
Bendeciré a los que te bendigan, y maldeciré al que te maldiga, y en ti serán benditas todas las familias de la tierra.
4
Se fue entonces Abram como YHVH le había hablado, y Lot fue con él. Y era Abram de setenta y cinco años cuando salió de Harán.
5
Y tomó Abram a Saray su mujer, y a Lot, hijo de su hermano, y todos los bienes que había acumulado y las personas que habían conseguido en Harán. Y salieron para ir a la tierra de Canaán, y en tierra de Canaán entraron.
6
Y atravesó Abram aquella tierra hasta el lugar de Siquem, hasta el encinar de Moré (y el cananeo estaba entonces en la tierra).
7
Y apareció YHVH a Abram, y dijo: A tu descendencia daré esta tierra. Entonces edificó allí un altar a YHVH, que se le había aparecido.
8
Y de allí se desplazó hacia la montaña, al oriente de Bet-’El, y plantó su tienda, teniendo Bet-’El al occidente y Hai al oriente. Luego edificó allí un altar a YHVH e invocó el nombre de YHVH.

Después partió Abram andando progresivamente hacia el Neguev.

Pero hubo hambre en la tierra, y Abram descendió a Egipto para peregrinar allá, pues la hambruna era severa en la tierra.
11
Y sucedió que cuando se acercaba para entrar a Egipto, le dijo a su esposa Saray: Mira, eres mujer de hermosa apariencia,
12
y sucederá que cuando te vean los egipcios, dirán: Esta es su mujer. Entonces me matarán a mí, y a ti te dejarán vivir.
13
Te ruego, di que eres mi hermana, para que me traten bien por causa tuya, y así, por tu favor, salve mi vida.
14
Y sucedió que llegando Abram a Egipto, los egipcios vieron que la mujer era hermosa en gran manera.
15
Y la vieron los príncipes de Faraón, y la alabaron ante Faraón, y la mujer fue llevada a casa de Faraón.
16
Y a Abram le fue bien por causa de ella. Y tuvo rebaño, vacada y asnos, también siervos y siervas, asnas y camellos.
17
Pero por el asunto de Saray, mujer de Abram, YHVH afligió a Faraón y su casa con grandes plagas.
18
Entonces Faraón llamó a Abram y le dijo: ¿Qué es esto que me has hecho? ¿Por qué no me declaraste que ella era tu mujer?
19
¿Por qué dijiste: Es mi hermana? Pues yo la tomé para mí por mujer, y ahora resulta que es tu mujer. ¡Tómala y vete!
20
Y Faraón dio órdenes a los hombres respecto a él, y lo despidieron con su mujer y todo lo que poseía.
