El año en que el rey Sargón de Asiria envió a su comandante en jefe para que conquistara la ciudad filistea de Asdod,

el Señor le dijo a Isaías, hijo de Amoz: «Quítate la ropa de tela áspera que has estado usando y también las sandalias». Isaías hizo lo que se le indicó, y anduvo desnudo y descalzo.

Entonces el Señor dijo: «Mi siervo Isaías ha andado desnudo y descalzo durante los últimos tres años como señal: un símbolo de las terribles dificultades que haré caer sobre Egipto y Etiopía.

Pues el rey de Asiria llevará prisioneros a los egipcios y a los etíopes. Los hará andar desnudos y descalzos, tanto jóvenes como ancianos, con las nalgas descubiertas para vergüenza de Egipto.

Entonces los filisteos se llenarán de pánico, porque contaban con el poder de Etiopía y hacían alarde de los aliados que tenían en Egipto.

Dirán: “Si esto le puede suceder a Egipto, ¿qué de nosotros? Contábamos con que Egipto nos protegiera del rey de Asiria”».
