Abban az évben, amikor Asdód alá érkezett az a hadvezér, aki Szargón asszír király parancsára megostromolta és elfoglalta Asdódot,

abban az időben így szólt az ÚR Ézsaiáshoz, Ámóc fiához: Vedd le a zsákruhát a derekadról, és húzd le a sarut a lábadról! Ő így is tett, és mezítelenül, saru nélkül járt.

Akkor ezt mondta az ÚR: Ahogyan szolgám, Ézsaiás mezítelenül és saru nélkül jár három esztendeig, intő jelül Egyiptom és Etiópia számára,

úgy hajtja el az asszír király Egyiptom rabjait és Etiópia foglyait, ifjakat és véneket, mezítelenül és saru nélkül, csupasz fenékkel, Egyiptom szégyenére.

Akkor majd reszketni és szégyenkezni fognak, akik Etiópiában bíztak, és Egyiptommal dicsekedtek.

Akkor ezt mondják e partvidék lakói: Hogyan tudnánk mi megmenekülni, ha az is így járt, akiben bíztunk, és akihez segítségért folyamodtunk, hogy mentsen meg bennünket az asszír királytól?!
