Deuteronomy 1:17
Armenian Eastern Bible 1994
What Does This Mean?
This verse tells us not to show favoritism when making decisions. Moses is speaking to the Israelites, reminding them to be fair to everyone, regardless of their status, and not to fear anyone's reaction. He also says that if a case is too hard to decide, they should bring it to him.
Explained for Children
Imagine you're the judge in a game, and you have to decide who wins. This verse says you shouldn't pick your friend as the winner just because you like them. You should be fair to everyone and not be scared of what others might think. If you can't decide, ask a grown-up to help you.
Historical Background
This verse is part of the book of Deuteronomy, written by Moses around 1200 B.C. The audience was the Israelites, preparing to enter the Promised Land. In this cultural setting, fairness and justice were essential as they established a new society.
Living It Out Today
Imagine you're on a school committee deciding who gets a scholarship. This verse reminds you to treat everyone equally, not letting personal feelings or fear influence your decision. If the case is too complex, seek guidance from a mentor.
