Da quel momento il re era l' Unto (Messia) di Dio. Solo dal tempo del ritorno dall' esilio, restaurata la comunità giudaica, i sommi sacerdoti ereditarono questo tipo di investitura come detentori del potere così come lo erano stati i re (Dn 9,25; 2Mac 1,10).
