요나 가 하나님께 불평을 터뜨렸다. “아, 주님, 제가 저의 나라에 있을 때 말한 그대로 되지 않았습니까? 주께서는 자비로우시고 너그러움이 넘치시며 화를 잘 안 내시는 분이십니다. 게다가 사랑도 많은 분이십니다. 그러니 사람들에게 벌을 내리려는 마음을 곧 바꾸시리라는 걸 알고 있었습니다. 그래서 제가 처음에 다시스 로 도망치려 했던 겁니다.
