Imagine you and your brother are playing with toys, and you took his favorite toy. Now your brother is upset. To make things better, you tell your friends to give your brother some of your other toys. That's what Jacob is doing here with Esau.

The book of Genesis was written by Moses around 1446-1406 BC. It was written for the Israelites, to remind them of their history and to understand God's plan for them. This passage takes place during a time when sibling rivalry and family disputes were common.

When there's a conflict with someone, it's wise to try and make amends. For instance, if you've had a disagreement with a coworker, sending a thoughtful gift or note can help repair the relationship.
