Gileaditten Barsillai var kommet ned fra Rogelim og hadde fulgt kongen til Jordan. Barsillai var en meget gammel mann, for han var 80 år gammel. Han sørget for at kongen fikk det han trengte mens han var på flukt i Mahanajim– han var nemlig veldig rik. Kongen sa til Barsillai: «Bli med meg til Jerusalem, så skal jeg sørge for deg mens du er hos meg.»
