Moses og Aron henvendte seg til folket: «I kveld skal dere få oppleve at det er Herren selv som har ført dere ut av Egypt. I morgen tidlig skal dere se Herrens storhet. For Herren hører at dere klager på Ham.» Så sa Moses til Aron: «Be hele folket om å gå i bønn til Herren, for Han har hørt at de klager!» Mens Aron talte til hele forsamlingen av israelitter, vendte de seg mot ørkenen, og da skjedde det plutselig at Herrens viste seg for dem.
